Classic CCM Spotlight–Steve Camp

Looks like the boy’s in trouble again
Living much too close to the edge of sin
Now he finds himself where he should not have been
Oh, God, why is your peace so hard to find
And the answer to the questions that haunt my mind?
Oh, Lord, your ways are not like mineAnd it pounds like thunder within my breast
All the anger, all my humanness
And though I call you Lord, I must confess
I’m a stranger to your holiness
A stranger to your holiness

Can we really be what we were meant to be?
Jesus people, living by the Spirit, living free
My heart longs to serve, but wanders so aimlessly
Oh Lord, you deserve every part on me.

Pounds like thunder within my breast
All the anger, all my humanness
And, though I call you Lord, I must confess
I’m a stranger to your holiness
A stranger to your holiness

Hear my cry of desperation
As I see the wickedness of my ways
You alone are my salvation
And, Lord, I’ve learned this one thing to be true Is that the closer I get to you
I see I’m a stranger to your holiness

Don’t want to be no stranger

And it burns like a fire
And it pounds like thunder within my breast
All the anger, all my humanness
And, though I call you Lord, I must confess
I’m a stranger to your holiness
A stranger to your holiness

Don’t want to be no stranger, oh no
Don’t want to be no stranger
Don’t want to be no stranger
Looks like the boy’s in trouble again
Don’t stop loving the stranger

CCM Classic Spotlight–Dallas Holm

Indeed a classic CCM from the Broken Believer music library.  This man has had a long run of over 40 years of music ministry.  His song, “Rise Again” took over the CCM charts for several months, winning the Dove Awards best song of the year in 1977.

Rise Again Lyrics

musician: Dallas Holm & Praise

Go ahead, drive the nails in My hands;
Laugh at me… where you stand.
Go ahead, and say it isn’t Me;
The day will come… when you will see.

(Refrain)
‘Cause I’ll rise…. again;
Ain’t no power on earth can keep Me down!
Yes, I’ll rise… again;
Death can’t keep Me in the ground.

Go ahead, mock My name;
My love for you is still the same.
Go ahead, and bury Me;
But very soon, I will be free!

(Refrain) (Instrumental bridge)

Go ahead, and say I’m dead and gone,
But you will see that you were wrong.
Go ahead, try to hide the Son;
But all will see that I’m the One!

(Final refrain)
‘Cause I’ll come again!
Ain’t no power on earth can keep me back!
Yes, I’ll come again;
Come to take My people back.

Early CCM Spotlight– Wendy & Mary, Again

*****

“Welcome Home,” Just really felt I wanted to imprint these guys on to your heart.  There is value in letting music like this to saturate your heart.  I must tell you, seldom has there been a duo like this, with their acoustic guitars, robust lyrics and angelic voices.  I hope that YouTube will do them justice.

Early CCM- Spotlight on Wendy & Mary

“If I Could Love You Better”

One of the early and blessed CCM duets was Wendy & Mary.  They were together just 5-6  years but cranked out 5 or 6 albums.  Their music operated off of relatively simple melodies, but their lyrics were often quite piercing and evocative.  They very quickly became one of my personal favorites.

I chose this song, even though 3 or 4 could fit in this post quite adequately.  I only hope that this selection would inspire you, and give you hope.  If this connects with your heart, check out iTunes for more.  The early albums are very good and each song is solid and hopeful.  You can’t go wrong.
